The Richest Towns in America

 In Blog

Who in America can call their town the richest? Because there are a few different ways you can define “rich”–and even “town”–there’s no single way to calculate the richest towns in America. However, one of the more interesting surveys that exists is the Bloomberg Small Town Wealth Index, which ranks towns with a population of less than 50,000 by factors such as household income and home value. According to those measurements, these are the richest towns in America.

Summit Park, Utah

With a median household income of $83,336 and median home value of $485,700, Summit Park tops Bloomberg’s small town wealth index. Although Summit Park came out as the wealthiest small town, don’t necessarily expect to see Lamborghinis rolling down the street and swimming pools in every backyard. Summit Park is a relatively new ski town, founded in the 1950s, which finds itself adjacent to Parley’s Summit and 15 minutes away from Salt Lake City. The area’s stunning snow-tipped mountain vistas might just make the multi-million dollar home values worth it.

Edwards, Colorado

Edwards, located centrally in Colorado’s Eagle County, takes second on the Bloomberg list, with a median household income of about $75,000 and a house value not that much less than that in Summit Park. Like Summit Park, Edwards is very much tied to the skiing industry, with the town being only a 20-minute drive from Vail. Although skiing is one of the main activities to get up to in Edwards, the town is also home to boutique shops, restaurants, and bars.

Jackson, Wyoming

Jackson, Wyoming, which finds itself in the middle of the insanely scenic Jackson Hole valley, is a tourist town within close distance to such attractions as the Grand Teton National Park, Yellowstone National Park, and multiple mountain resorts. So, naturally, houses are going to be a little expensive there, with about one in six being worth more than a million dollars. If the town sounds at all familiar, you might be thinking of the time in 2016 when a livestream of its seemingly normal downtown square went viral on the internet.

Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts

You might not have heard of Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts, but you’ve certainly heard of the island it’s located on: Martha’s Vineyard. A port town, Vineyard Haven, which is also known as Tisbury, offers up scenic views of the Atlantic. The homeowners of Vineyard Haven are probably pretty happy with their investments, because at a median home value of $665,300, the houses in Vineyard Haven turn out to be the most expensive of small-town America. An interesting tidbit about Vineyard Haven is that it was a dry town until 2012.

Breckenridge, Colorado

Rounding out the top five richest towns in America, Breckenridge is–surprise, surprise–a ski town. But, while skiing is probably the biggest activity to take part in here, the town is also within close proximity to other fun outdoor activities like hiking, biking, rafting, and fishing. Unlike some of the other towns on this list, wealth isn’t anything new to Breckenridge. During the mid-1800s, it got its start as a settlement for gold rush miners.
