Must-See Movies Coming Out This Summer

 In Blog

Summer is the time for outdoor barbecues, beach days, and maybe best of all, summer blockbusters. You can always look forward to the summer holding one or two exciting cinematic events, and this year is no different. Here’s a look at some of the most highly anticipated movies coming out this summer.

Finding Dory

It’s a Pixar movie, and it’s the sequel to “Finding Nemo.” Need we say more? “Finding Dory” follows a similar story to its beloved predecessor, but this time, it’s Dory, the forgetful fish voiced by Ellen Degeneres, who’s lost and must be found. This movie is bound to be great for all ages. And with Pixar’s reputation for crafting tales that are both hilarious and tearjerking, you might want to bring a box of tissues.

The Legend of Tarzan

The old tale gets a new spin in this blockbuster reboot. Unlike the original serials and the animated Disney films, this retelling looks to have gotten rid of all the lightheartedness and instead gone for a super-serious tone. If you can’t watch a Tarzan movie without having a laugh and hearing Phil Collins, you might want to sit this one out. Otherwise, it’ll be interesting to see how the film adapts the age-old story for a new generation.

Ghostbusters

A new “Ghostbusters” film has been in the works for many years, and after a revolving door of story ideas and potential cast and crew members, we finally get to see the first film since 1989’s so-so “Ghostbusters II.” Instead of being a straight-up sequel or remake, the film takes a different approach by flipping genders and featuring a squad made up entirely of women. The trailer for the film oddly got a lot of polarized views from fans of the original who were expecting something else, making it the most disliked trailer in YouTube history. Still, the film looks faithful to the tone of the original and worth seeing, though you might want to wait for the reviews.

Star Trek Beyond

You’ll have to wait until the end of the year to see the new “Star Wars: Rogue One” picture, but for sci-fi fans, the new “Star Trek” film will be enough to tide them over until then. The third film in the reboot series, this outing sees all the major cast members of the previous two films return for another adventure, this time put up against a race of mysterious aliens. The previous Star Trek film, “Star Trek Into Darkness,” got mixed reviews, but all true fans know that the best Trek films are the odd-numbered ones.

Jason Bourne

Wait, another Bourne movie? We weren’t expecting this one. The previous film in the series, “The Bourne Legacy,” was notable for what it lacked; that is, actor Matt Damon was nowhere to be seen. Damon makes a return in this one, bringing back the character the series is known for, just in time to wrap up a summer filled with sequels, remakes, and reboots. If you like your action with a helping heap of geopolitical intrigue, this is the one for you.

Movie ticket prices aren’t getting any cheaper, so some of these might have to wait until their inevitable Netflix or Hulu premiere. Still, nothing beats taking refuge from the blistering summer heat and seeing a flick on the big screen. Just don’t hog the popcorn!
